Constance Hoffman
Costume designer
Constance Hoffman has had wide experience as a costume designer in opera, theatre and dance productions – both regionally and internationally. She has collaborated with Mark Lamos, Julie Taymor, Eliot Feld and Mikhail Baryshnikov, the opera directors Robert Carsen, David Alden, Christopher Alden and Keith Warner, as well as the entertainer Bette Midler. Her work has been seen in New York City at the Public Theater, New Victory Theater, Second Stage, Theater for a New Audience, Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, The Joyce and NYC Opera. Her Broadway debut (The Green Bird) won her a Tony nomination and the Outer Critics Circle Award. She has designed costume for operas at the Glyndebourne Festival, Opéra de Paris, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Bavarian State Opera and Tokyo Opera Nomori, to name but a few. In the USA she has worked for San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Minnesota Opera, Portland Opera, the Opera Theater of St. Louis, Lincoln Center Festival and Glimmerglass Opera. In 2001 Constance Hoffman was awarded the Theater Development Fund’s Irene Sharaff Young Masters Award and was invited to exhibit her work at the Prague Quadriennale in 2003 and 2007. She currently teaches design for stage and film at Tisch School of the Arts.
