Enrico Calesso

Musical assistant / Conductor

Enrico Calesso was born in Treviso (Italy) and studied piano in Venice at the city conservatory under Anna Colonna Romano. At the same time he studied philosophy at the University of Venice, graduating with distinction in 1998. From 2000 to 2005 he attended the conducting class of Professor Uros Lajovic at the University of Vienna and graduated with distinction. While still studying he was involved in various opera productions as musical assistant, for instance at the Bregenz Festival and Wiener Festwochen, in the course of which he was able to expand his knowledge of the repertoire. He gathered important experience as Ulf Schirmer's assistant. In 2008 he took on a three-year appointment as musical director of Opera Klosterneuburg (near Vienna) and from 2007 to 2010 he was also as kapellmeister and assistant to the general music director at Erfurt Theatre. Since the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Enrico Calesso has been first kapellmeister and deputy general music director at the Mainfranken Theatre Würzburg, and from the 2011/12 season he will take over as general music director.
