Guang Yang, winner of the prestigious BBC Singer of the World competition in Cardiff in 1997, recently completed a three-year engagement at the Center for American Artists at the Lyric Opera of Chicago In recent seasons, she has returned to the Lyric Opera of Chicago, for the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana and made her debuts at Hong Kong Opera as Eboli in Don Carlos and at the Bregenz Festival as Amneris in Aida. Additional engagements include Amneris in Aida at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Canadian Opera Company, where Yang sang in Don Carlos, The Valkyrie and Götterdämmerung. She made her debut at Florida Grand Opera as Amneris in Aida, a role she repeated in Houston and Omaha, followed by her Paris debut in concert performances of Verdi's Requiem with Christoph Eschenbach and the Orchestre de Paris. She thereafter sang the same work with the Kansas City and Indianapolis Symphony. Guang Yang took part in Marilyn Horne's birthday gala in a concert in Zankel Hall. Other performances of the recent past include her debut as Eboli in Don Carlos (in the original French version in five acts) at Welsh National Opera; and earlier this season she sang the Second Norn and Waltraute in Götterdämmerung in her first appearance at the Canadian Opera Company. Another important debut took place at Deutsche Oper Berlin with her first performance as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana. Next season, Ms. Yang will debut at the San Francisco Opera as Amneris in Aida.
