John Lundgren was born and grew up in Sweden. Since his debut in Copenhagen he has gone on to sing many roles on his "home stage": Paolo Albioni in Simone Boccanegra, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Don Profondo in Il Viaggio a Reims, the Herald in Lohengrin, Conte di Luna in Il trovatore, Enrico Ashton in Lucia di Lammermoor, Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, Posa in Don Carlos, Scarpia in a new production of Tosca, the title role in Berg's Wozzeck, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia and Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde. In 2005, John Lundgren performed in the all-star inaugural concert at the new Copenhagen Opera House, singing Amonasro (Aida) alongside Roberto Alagna. Highlights of recent years include Nabucco in the great outdoor arena of Opera Hedeland, Don Pizzarro (Fidelio) and the title role in The Flying Dutchman at Danish National Opera. Among his forthcoming engagements are Die Frau ohne Schatten (2011), Parsifal (2012), Otello and Macbeth (both 2013) in Copenhagen, Jack Rance in La Fanciulla del West (2012) in Stockholm (with Nina Stemme) as well as Alberich in Der Ring des Nibelungen in Geneva 2013 and 2014. In summer 2006, John Lundgren was the recipient of the prestigious Birgit Nilsson Prize.
