Lukás Vasilek
Rehearsal director of the Prague Philharmonic Choir
Lukás Vasilek studied conducting at the Academy of Arts and musicology at Charles University in Prague. In the years 1998–2009 he was director of the J. B. Foerster Women's Chamber Choir. Under his director the choir gave more than 150 concerts at home and abroad, recorded two CDs and won international competitions in Klaipeda and Vienna. In 2005 Lukas Vasilek was named Junior Choral Director by the Union of Czech Choirs. At this time he was also second director of the opera chorus of the National Theatre in Prague, with which he rehearsed the operas Don Pasquale, The Kiss and La clemenza di Tito. Since 2007 he has been director of the Prague Philharmonic Choir. The choir gives concerts and takes part in large-scale cantata, oratorio and opera projects, during which it has worked with a number of internationally acclaimed conductors (e.g. Barenboim, Fedoseyev, Honeck, Marin, Metzmacher, Rizzi) and orchestras (e.g. Berlin Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic, Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Staatskapelle Dresden). Recording is an integral part of his work with the choir, which can be heard on the album Souvenirs by Anna Netrebko, the complete works of Leos Janáček for Czech Radio as well as the operettas of Johann Strauss for the WDR broadcasting corporation. In 2010, he founded the chamber choir Martinů Voices. At the same time he put together a professional jazz vocal ensemble and rehearsed it in preparation for concerts Bobby McFerrin gave in the Czech Republic. Lukás Vasilek also does orchestral conducting and has given concerts with the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, the Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra of South Bohemia, the Pilsen Philharmonic and the North Bohemian Philharmonic in Teplitz.
