Born in Glamorgan, Wales, Paul Brown studied design under Margaret Harris. His designs have been seen at a number of prominent venues and include Mitridate, re di Ponto, Falstaff, I Masnadieri, The Midsummer Marriage, Tosca (Royal Opera House Covent Garden), King Arthur (Royal Opera House Covent Garden and le Châtelet, Paris), Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Moses and Aaron (Metropolitan Opera, New York), Pelléas et Mélisande, Lulu, The Turn of the Screw (Glyndebourne), The Magic Flute (Salzburg Festival), Peter Grimes, Parsifal (Opéra National de Paris), Don Carlos (Sydney), Rigoletto (Madrid), Thaïs (Chicago), Katya Kabanova, Lucio Silla, The Tempest, The Marriage of Figaro (Santa Fe); L’incoronazione di Poppea (Bologna), La Traviata, Anna Bolena (Verona), Méphistophélès (Amsterdam), The Magic Flute (Bolshoi), Elektra (Mariinsky, St Petersburg), He Had It Coming, Fidelio (BOC) and Tannhäuser (San Francisco). Paul Brown also works in theatre, designing sets and costumes for As You Desire Me, Country Wife, The Sea, Marguerite (London West End), The Tempest, Richard II, Coriolanus, King Lear, Platonov, Naked (Almeida), Hamlet (Tokyo, Sadler’s Wells); Giselle (La Scala), Man of La Mancha (Broadway), Full Servant (National) and Oedipus (Royal National). Frau (Russia), Die Gezeichneten (Palermo) and Don Giovanni (Glyndebourne). His film designs include Angels and Insects and Up at the Villa.
