The Hawaiian baritone Quinn Kelsey, who entered the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2005, has recently completed a three-year study programme at the Lyric Opera Center for American Artists in Chicago. Now Kelsey is in demand at venues like the Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Bregenz Festival. Highlights from this season include Count di Luna in Il Trovatore at San Francisco Opera, Forrester in Cunning Little Vixen at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Sharpless in Madame Butterfly at New York City Opera, and Zurga in Pearl Fisher at the English National Opera. Recent projects include a debut at San Francisco Opera as Marcello in La Bohème as well as two debut roles: Germont in La traviata at Opera Memphis and Valentin in Faust at Opera Grand Rapids. as well as Amonasro in Aida at the Bregenz Festival. His past concert work includes performances of the works of Leonard Bernstein and the baritone solo in Mahler's 8th Symphony with the San Francisco Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. A commercial recording of Mahler's 8th Symphony with Quinn Kelsey has been scheduled. He has also sung in Beethoven's 9th Symphony and Orff's Carmina Burana with the Honolulu Symphony as well as in Mahler's 8th Symphony with the Milwaukee Symphony and returned to San Francisco for a solo concert as part of the celebrated Schwabacher Debut Recital series. Among forthcoming projects, Mr. Kelsey returns to the San Francisco Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, as well as debuts at Norwegian National Opera and Canadian Opera Company.
