Richard Angas studied in London and Vienna. He has performed for many years in Germany and at English National Opera. Among the roles he has sung are: Don Alfonso (Cosi fan tutte), Osmin (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), Sarastro and the Speaker (The Magic Flute), King Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier), the Doctor (Wozzeck), Kecal (The Bartered Bride), Mephistopheles (Faust) and Arkel (Pélleas & Mélisande). He is regularly to be heard in England and Continental Europe at Garsington Opera, English National Opera, the Lyric Hammersmith, Opera North, Holland Park Opera, Grange Park Opera, De Nederlandse Opera, Zurich Opera, La Fenice, in Strasbourg, Palermo and Prague in the roles of Pistol (Falstaff), the Doctor in Vanessa by Samuel Barber, Alcindoro (La Bohème) and the title roles in The Mikado and Don Pasquale, Yakovlevich (The Nose), the Cook in The Love for Three Oranges, the Governor (From the House of the Dead), the High Priest of Baal (Nabucco), the King (Aida), the Priest (The Cunning Little Vixen), Swallow (Peter Grimes), the Water Sprite (Rusalka), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Waldner (Arabella), Tree / Chair (L’enfant et les sortilèges), the Count (Luisa Miller) and Dikoy (Katya Kabanova). Richard Angas has appeared before at the Bregenz Festival, singing Captain Aga (The Greek Passion) and the double role of the Sacristan and the Jailer (Tosca) as well as Drebednyov in Opera North's guest performances of Shostakovich's Cheryomushki.
