Tobias Hächler

The Basel-born baritone studied voice at the academies of music in Hamburg and Cologne and rounded off his training with masterclasses with Kurt Moll, Christoph Prégardien and Franz Grundheber. His vocal coach is Stefan Haselhoff. Tobias Hächler is a prizewinner of the Concours Ernst Haefliger and received a grant from the Armin Weltner Foundation from Alexander Pereira at Zurich Opera. Following guest commitments at Schlossoper Haldenstein, Schloss Rheinsberg chamber opera and Stuttgart State Opera, Tobias Hächler was a member of the Opera Studio and went to Basel Theatre where he took on roles in works like Zaide (Mozart), Don Carlo (Verdi), The Love for Three Oranges (Prokofiev), Jeanne d’Arc au bucher (Honegger). Until summer 2010 he was first baritone in the ensemble of Lucerne Theatre, where he appeared as Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Rodolfo in Leoncavallo's La Bohème, Ford in Falstaff, Falke in Die Fledermaus, Ramiro in L’Heure éspagnole and as Thésée in Ariane. Tobias Hächler began his freelance career with a performance in The Rage of Life by Elena Kats-Chernin, which received its world premiere at Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp; the lead role of Leif was composed for his voice. After his debut at the Bregenz Festival in The Passenger as well as at Opera Schenkenberg in Carmen, he sang again in The Rage of Life in autumn 2010 at Stuttgart State Theatre. As lieder singer he has appeared in concerts at the Lucerne Festival as well as at the Davos Young Artists Festival.
