Amonasro, King of Ethiopia and Aida's father (baritone)

The Italian Baritone Vittorio Vitelli was born in Ascoli Piceno, where he made his debut in the role of Lord Enrico in the opera Lucia di Lammermoor when still very young. In 1996, after winning Placido Domingo's Operalia, he began an international career and sang at theatres and festivals like Teatro La Fenice, Comunale di Bologna, Comunale di Firenze, San Carlo di Napoli, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera de Nice, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Real di Madrid, Washington Opera, Santander, Martina Franca, KlangBogen and Sferisterio in Macerata. His repertoire is wide-ranging, including verismo, but he has specialised in roles in Verdi operas such as the title roles in Rigoletto, Simon Boccanegra and Macbeth as well as important roles in Un ballo in maschera, Falstaff, Otello, Aida, Don Carlos, La forza del destino and Il trovatore. In 2006 he made his debut at La Scala in Aida, where he sang the role of Amonasro in a Franco Zeffirelli production conducted by Riccardo Chailly. He has also worked with some of the best conductors and directors, like C. Abbado, G. Bertini, D. Orren, C. Rizzi, Z. Metha, N. Santi, Silvio, D. Gatti, B. Bartoletti, P. L. Pizzi, G. Vick, H. De Ana, L. Puggelli, L. Cavani, R. De Simone and G. Bertolucci.
