Wolfgang Göbbel is a German lighting designer in great demand internationally in opera and spoken theatre. He has worked on productions at many theatres and opera houses – for example the Bregenz Festival on the productions La Wally, Mazeppa, Francesca da Rimini, Of Mice and Men, Julietta, La voix humaine, Die schöne Wunde, The Diary of One who Disappeared, Charles V, Of Thee I Sing as well as Masquerade at the Festspielhaus. For the Lake Stage he has designed the lighting for A Masked Ball (1999/00), La Bohème (2001/02) and Aida (2009-2010). He regularly works for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Glyndebourne Opera Festival, Grange Park Opera Festival, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, La Monnaie Brussels, Copenhagen Royal Opera and with the directors and stage designers Graham Vick, Keith Warner, David Alden, Michael Boyd, David Fielding, Antony MacDonald, Es Devlin, Paul Brown, Pierre Audi, David McVikar, David Pountney, Hermann Feuchter and Stephen Langridge. Projects for the period from 2010 to 2013 include Der Ring des Nibelungen at Nederlandse Opera and at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Tristan und Isolde at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Die tote Stadt in Helsinki, Simone Boccanegra in Strasbourg, Werther in Lyons, Die Teufel von Loudon and Le Nozze di Figaro in Warsaw as well as Boris Godunov in Copenhagen.
