Art of Our Times - KAZ
My Musig
Is there anything specific that goes to make up the sound of one's own homeland? Is it the rustling of the forests, the pealing of the bells, the mooing of the cows, or a special type of melody? For the concert My Musig, Kunst aus der Zeit has commissioned three musicians from different countries and regions to explore the sound-world of Vorarlberg.
Processional
Open-air composition for a septet of wind instruments, jazz big band and three marching bands by
Moritz Eggert
The 2009 programme of Kunst aus der Zeit opens with a musical procession through the whole town. The processional music has been written by the German composer Moritz Eggert and is scored for three marching bands, a jazz big band and a septet of wind instruments plus one conductor. The musicians all come from Bregenz and the surrounding area. The procession will make its way to the Festival Opera House, culminating in a big ensemble in front of the house with 150 members all playing together.

Avalanches, forests and traditional alpine music (world premiere)
Composition for riverbed stones, bells, branches and solar-powered stringed instruments by
Georg Nussbaumer
Commissioned by Kunst aus der Zeit
In one room the rustling of the trees of Bregenz Forest can be heard, in another the thundering of an approaching avalanche. Familiar and ordinary sounds from the mountains and forests of home are produced in this composition with surprising ease, but thereby acquire an unusual, mysterious power. The Upper Austrian composer Georg Nussbaumer is well known among other things for his works for the Styrian Autumn and Donaueschingen contemporary music festivals.

by
Benedict Mason, commissioned by Kunst aus der Zeit
with the kind support of the ernst von siemens musikstiftung
The pieces belonging to the series Music for Concert Halls are unique works: musical acts composed specifically for certain venues, where they can be perceived three-dimensionally. English composer Benedict Mason plays with variables like distance, motion, direction and resonance. Listeners are surrounded by sounds emanating from all directions. The theme of the Bregenz event is "Homeland and Music" – Mason's own meditation on the traditional music of the Vorarlberg region.
